Sometimes, it feels like God has created Gopi with utmost care.
Peppered his fur with hearts and bows,
And his heart with love, sensitivity, and patience (yes, I trouble him like a lil sister).
Loyalty also, yes… but chicken tempts this out of him.
Well, God probably sent Gopi only for me.
She made Akka and Gopi stay together for a while,
preparing Gopi to become my saviour upon her departure for education.
He seeped in all the details of Akka’s behaviour, her likes, and how she offers me comfort.
Oh, they are very similar.
They fall for butter, and they sleep in competition to sloths.
She delights in coffees and croissants, and Gopi loves anything that smells like milk or chicken.
She likes her fancy handloom dohars, and this boy loves layering.
Their days are busy protecting the garden against squirrels and sunning themselves to stunning tans.
Though I secretly know that both of them like squirrels, as they are never able to shoo them away (well, squirrels are always welcome-they are my ammi’s dearest children).
Oh, and their raagas-one sings warmth into the home, another whines well for attention.
Then, when Akka left to make this world a better place through education, care, and by breaking the chains of privilege...
Gopi became her secretary,
Taking care of everything she did with utmost and equal care.
They make my days less tiring, warmer, and love-filled!
Thanks to them, I have the privilege of being a sane and rooted human being.
